The difference between vascular nevi and hemangiomas
Disease description:
Recently, a friend of mine told me that he developed something resembling a birthmark on his arm. After a medical examination, the doctor diagnosed it as a hemangioma. I've only heard of vascular nevi before, so I'm wondering—what's the difference between a vascular nevus and a hemangioma?
The differences between vascular nevi and hemangiomas are as follows:
1. Vascular nevi occur on the body surface, whereas hemangiomas are generally vascular lesions occurring within blood vessels.
2. Vascular nevi appear as dark red or port-wine colored lesions that are flat or slightly raised, with nodular thickened growths that do not fade when pressed. In contrast, hemangiomas develop within capillaries and present as purplish-red or bright red patches that temporarily lighten in color when pressed and return to their original color upon release.
