Disease description:

My uncle was previously diagnosed with liver cirrhosis, and now he has developed ascites. What are the symptoms of ascites in late-stage liver cirrhosis?

Doctor's answer (1)
Dr. Peng Xiaodong
In the late stages of liver cirrhosis with ascites, symptoms such as jaundice, decreased appetite, hepatosplenomegaly (enlarged liver and spleen), and pain in the liver area may appear. Patients may also experience bleeding, such as bloody stools or vomiting blood, which can become severe and life-threatening. Once these symptoms occur, it is recommended to go to the hospital promptly for a thorough medical examination and receive targeted treatment under a doctor's guidance. During treatment, patients should remain on bed rest, follow medical advice using diuretics—such as furosemide tablets—and, when necessary, undergo paracentesis for fluid drainage.
