Disease description:

Recently, I went to the hospital for double eyelid surgery. During the procedure, I noticed that the doctor didn't start from the inner corner of the eye, which made me curious. So I'd like to ask: why doesn't double eyelid surgery start from the inner corner of the eye?

Dr. Li Fengyong
Double eyelid surgery does not necessarily begin from the corner of the eye, mainly because double eyelid creation and epicanthoplasty (opening the eye corners) are two different surgical procedures. If a patient does not have epicanthal folds or excessive inner or outer eye corner skin, an additional procedure to open the eye corners is generally unnecessary. However, if a patient does have such conditions, the surgeon may perform both double eyelid surgery and epicanthoplasty simultaneously. This combined approach can make the eyes appear longer, larger, and more aesthetically pleasing.
