Bright red tongue coating may result from consuming foods containing red pigments, such as red dragon fruit or carrots, leading to temporary staining of the tongue—a generally normal physiological phenomenon that requires no special treatment. However, a bright red tongue can also be associated with conditions such as burning mouth syndrome, or atrophic glossitis caused by Candida albicans infection, anemia, or niacin deficiency.
