Color blindness in humans is generally caused by genetic mutations. Since congenital color blindness is a hereditary condition linked to sex chromosomes, there are significantly more male patients than female patients. Although individuals with color blindness can see the same colors as those with normal vision, their ability to distinguish colors is slow or impaired. In dim lighting, some people experience difficulty distinguishing colors that is essentially similar or comparable to that of color-blind individuals. Color blindness imposes restrictions on many professions for affected individuals.
