Low body temperature in humans is generally caused by infectious factors, low basal metabolic rate, and other factors. When body temperature falls below 35.5°C, symptoms may include shivering, chills, generalized dampness, moist skin, pallor, undetectable blood pressure, weak pulse, and reduced urine output. Hypothermia caused by septic shock, sepsis-related shock, or hemorrhagic shock requires immediate emergency treatment at a hospital. Low body temperature due to decreased basal metabolism, such as hypothyroidism or adrenal cortical insufficiency, can be treated by addressing the underlying condition.
