What causes dry earwax to turn into wet earwax?
Disease description:
I used to have dry earwax before, but now it's gradually turning into wet earwax. Why does dry earwax become wet earwax?
Dry earwax turning into wet earwax may be caused by oily ears, external otitis (outer ear infection), or water entering the ear. Earwax is secreted by modified sweat glands in the ear canal. When first secreted, earwax is typically wet. In most cases, the amount secreted during childhood gradually dries up over time, becoming dry earwax. If wet earwax accumulates and forms a blockage that affects hearing, intervention is needed. Otherwise, no treatment is necessary.
