Disease description:

Recently, I have been experiencing tinnitus and a significant decline in hearing compared to before. When I went to the hospital for examination, I was diagnosed with fungal infection of the external auditory canal. I'm concerned about whether this could be transmitted to my family members. Can ear fungus be contagious?

Fungal infection of the external auditory canal is contagious. Fungal otitis externa presents with symptoms such as congestion, swelling, moisture, and severe itching in the external ear canal, which can be unbearable. Patients should clean ear secretions thoroughly using normal saline and apply antifungal ear drops. Additionally, patients should maintain a light diet and avoid spicy foods. They should also refrain from forcefully scratching inside the ears during daily activities.
