I've been coughing nonstop recently—a dry cough that feels extremely uncomfortable. I suspect it might be pharyngitis. Do people with pharyngitis keep coughing constantly?

Patients with pharyngitis generally do not cough continuously. Chronic pharyngitis causes the mucosal tissue to secrete excessive mucus, leading to a sensation of a foreign body in the throat, which may result in reflexive coughing. However, persistent coughing is not necessarily caused by pharyngitis—it is likely due to other underlying conditions. Coughing is also common when exposed to irritating odors. To alleviate symptoms of long-term coughing, proper throat care should be maintained daily.
