Why isn't my 2-and-a-half-year-old child talking yet?

Disease description:

Our child is already two and a half years old. We've noticed that other children the same age can already speak, but ours still can't. Could you please tell us what might be causing this?

It is indeed a concern if a child still cannot speak by the age of two and a half. Possible causes include hearing problems, as children who cannot hear sounds are unable to imitate or learn speech. Additionally, autism spectrum disorder, intellectual developmental delay, or specific language impairments may be contributing factors. An insufficient home language environment or lack of communication with the child can also affect language development. It is recommended to take the child to an ear, nose, and throat (ENT) specialist for a hearing evaluation. At the same time, seek assessment from a qualified physician or pediatric speech-language therapist. Based on the evaluation results, interventions such as speech therapy, psychological support, or family-based training may be necessary. Parents should spend more time with the child, engage in frequent conversations, and encourage imitation of sounds. If needed, professional treatment should be followed consistently.
