A positive HPV result in cervical screening may indicate an HPV virus infection. This is usually caused by sexual transmission, indirect contact, or infection through the birth canal. Typically, patients may develop warts on the genitalia or cervix that resemble cauliflower, papillomas, or rooster combs, with a rough, uneven surface. Symptoms may also include vaginal itching and increased discharge.
