What causes bleeding after sexual intercourse?

I experienced contact bleeding during intercourse tonight, which has never happened before. I would like to know what could be causing this?

Contact bleeding during intercourse may be caused by overly vigorous movements that lead to lacerations of the external genitalia or damage to the vaginal mucosa. It could also result from cervical inflammation; due to inflammatory irritation, the mucosa of the cervical canal becomes fragile and prone to bleeding after sexual contact. Additionally, uterine polyps in patients may also cause the above symptoms.
