What causes vulvar itching, especially when it worsens at night?
Disease description:
Previously, I only occasionally experienced vaginal itching, but recently the symptom has become more severe, especially at night. What could be causing this?
Itchy vulva, especially worsening at night, may be caused by vaginitis. Vaginitis is an inflammatory condition affecting the vaginal mucosa and the underlying connective tissue, primarily causing symptoms such as vulvar itching, which often becomes more severe at night. It could also be due to pubic lice (pediculosis pubis). Pubic lice parasitize the pubic hair or body hair around the anus, leading to this condition. Once they bite the nearby skin, they cause intense vulvar itching—particularly at night—along with symptoms such as bleeding.
