Symptoms and signs of children not growing tall
Disease description:
In previous years, the child's height increased each year, but this year there has been no further growth. I'm really worried that my child may stop growing. What are the signs and symptoms of a child not growing properly?
Children who are not growing taller may show no height increase within a year. An X-ray examination of the growth plates (epiphyseal lines) can determine whether they have closed; once the growth plates are fused, height typically will not increase further. Additionally, in boys, after puberty ends, changes such as development of the Adam's apple, facial hair, voice deepening, and progressive muscle growth, and in girls, gradual increase in body fat one to two years after the onset of menstruation, indicate that the growth plates are nearing closure and that height growth will soon stop.
