Clinical manifestations of mental retardation
Disease description:
What are the clinical manifestations of delayed mental development when a child is just beginning to learn to speak but appears clumsy, still speaks very little, and has poor expressive abilities?
If intellectual disability is mild, it manifests as delayed language development, poor comprehension and analytical abilities, underdeveloped abstract thinking, etc. If moderate, it is characterized by poor language development, sometimes inability to express oneself fully, poor calculation skills, etc., requiring assistance in daily living and resulting in a semi-independent lifestyle. If severe, the main features include inability to calculate, ineffective verbal communication, clumsy walking, and most individuals are unable to care for themselves. If profound, it is characterized by physical deformities and neurological abnormalities, possibly with no language expression ability at all, and complete dependence on others for daily living.
Through professional assessment and diagnosis, intellectual disability in children should be detected as early as possible to provide a basis for developing treatment plans. Individualized treatment plans should be established according to each child's specific condition, including medication, psychotherapy, rehabilitation training, etc. For patients whose underlying causes can be identified, early etiological treatment should be initiated promptly.
