Mr. Wang, aged 38, has conjunctivitis. Can taking Qinjiao (Gentiana macrophylla) treat conjunctivitis?

Doctor's answer (1)
Dr. Chen You
Qinjiao (Gentiana macrophylla) has the effects of dispelling wind-dampness, clearing damp-heat, and eliminating bi syndrome. It is effective for rheumatic joint pain, damp-heat jaundice, pediatric malnutrition with accumulation, and fever. Common symptoms of conjunctivitis include eye discharge, redness, and a foreign body sensation in the eyes; therefore, Qinjiao is not effective for treating conjunctivitis. Patients are advised to get adequate rest and avoid living in windy and dusty environments. If working in a dusty environment, protective eyewear should be worn to prevent the occurrence or worsening of conjunctivitis symptoms.
