Why anticoagulation is needed in hypoproteinemia
Disease description:
A friend said that anticoagulation is needed for leukemia; I'd like to ask, why is anticoagulation necessary for hypoalbuminemia?
Hypoproteinemia requires anticoagulation, as massive urinary protein loss is accompanied by the loss of many coagulation factors. Hypoproteinemia stimulates the liver to increase the synthesis of coagulation factors, fibrinogen, and lipoproteins, while simultaneously reducing plasma colloid osmotic pressure, leading to increased blood concentration and viscosity, thereby promoting a hypercoagulable state. In addition, the use of diuretics and glucocorticoids can further exacerbate this hypercoagulable condition.
