Chronic leukemia is a malignant hematologic disorder characterized by insidious onset, slow progression, and an increased number of immature cells in the peripheral blood and bone marrow, although these cells show relatively better differentiation. Its natural course is longer than that of acute leukemia. The leukemic cells retain some capacity for differentiation and maturation, with abnormal mature cells predominating in the bone marrow and peripheral blood. It can be classified into chronic myeloid leukemia and chronic lymphocytic leukemia.
