Symptoms of Group B Streptococcus Infection in Infants
Disease description:
The baby was just born yesterday and was diagnosed today with Group B Streptococcus (GBS) infection. I would like to know, what are the symptoms of Group B Streptococcus infection?
Group B Streptococcus is a facultatively anaerobic, gram-positive coccus. Infection with Group B Streptococcus primarily causes postpartum infections. Newborns may develop severe systemic and localized infections, such as pneumonia, sepsis, and meningitis. Different diseases lead to different symptoms. In cases of neonatal pneumonia, the main manifestations include shortness of breath and apnea. Chest X-rays show reticular granular or patchy inflammatory infiltrates in the lungs, along with increased pulmonary markings.
