What should be done if a newborn is infected with Group B Streptococcus?
Disease description:
My child was diagnosed with group B streptococcus (GBS) infection shortly after birth. What should I do if a newborn is infected with group B streptococcus?
Neonatal infection with Streptococcus agalactiae can be treated with a two-week course of effective antibiotic anti-inflammatory therapy based on drug susceptibility results, followed by repeat blood cultures and other relevant tests. If the results turn negative, it indicates effective treatment, and recurrence is uncommon after recovery. With appropriate management, isolated sepsis typically does not lead to long-term sequelae. It is recommended to actively pursue treatment, maintain a balanced diet, and ensure adequate rest for the child.
