Disease description:

I've been watching some sad TV shows lately and crying a lot. Now my eyes feel really uncomfortable. Can excessive crying cause tear duct inflammation?

Crying too frequently may lead to inflammation of the lacrimal gland. Rubbing the eyes with hands while crying can easily introduce bacterial infection, thus causing lacrimal gland inflammation. This should be avoided as much as possible, and eye hygiene should be maintained. There are various causes of lacrimal gland inflammation; inflammatory conditions in surrounding tissues of the body may also spread and result in this condition. The disease can be treated with oral anti-inflammatory medication and warm compresses for relief. In severe cases, abscess formation may occur, requiring local incision and drainage for recovery.
