Can hyperthyroidism cause sialadenitis?
Disease description:
I was previously diagnosed with hyperthyroidism at the hospital. Recently, I've noticed my eyes tearing a bit. I'd like to ask, can hyperthyroidism cause lacrimal gland inflammation?
Hyperthyroidism generally does not cause dacryoadenitis. Hyperthyroidism is primarily caused by abnormal levels of thyroid hormones in the body, usually due to thyroid nodules or thyroid tumors, and may also result from excessive intake of iodine. It commonly causes symptoms such as fatigue, increased appetite, and possibly hand tremors. In contrast, dacryoadenitis mainly involves abnormalities in the eyelid area and does not affect the body's hormonal balance.
