What causes split urine stream in men?
Disease description:
I'm only 30 years old. Recently, I've noticed my urine stream is splitting when I urinate. Could you please explain what causes urine stream splitting in men?
Urinary stream splitting can be divided into physiological and pathological types.
1. Physiologically, holding a large amount of urine increases intravesical pressure, leading to a stronger force during urination, which may cause urinary stream splitting. This is considered normal and does not require medication.
2. Pathologically, urinary stream splitting results from partial obstruction of the urethra, and different medications are used depending on the underlying cause. For example, in prostatitis, urinary stream splitting may be accompanied by symptoms such as frequent urination, urgency, and dysuria. Treatment may include Qianliekang tablets, Zhangbishu tablets, and cefixime. When urinary tract infection causes urinary stream splitting, oral quinolone antibiotics such as levofloxacin, norfloxacin, or gatifloxacin can be used for treatment. Patients with benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH) may also experience urinary stream splitting and can take tamsulosin capsules. After continuous use for 2–4 weeks, patients should maintain good personal hygiene, drink plenty of water, urinate frequently, avoid spicy and irritating foods, abstain from smoking and alcohol, and get adequate rest.
