The differences between muscle epilepsy and myoclonus include distinct symptoms and different causes. Myoclonus may occur during sleep, primarily manifesting as jerking movements before falling asleep or upon waking. Myoclonus is caused by organic brain damage and genetic metabolic disorders. It is a very typical clinical presentation characterized by brief, sudden contractions of muscles throughout the body, which can lead to deformities in the neck, trunk, and thighs. Epilepsy, on the other hand, is a highly complex disorder, mainly involving generalized tonic-clonic seizures. During such seizures, patients suddenly lose consciousness, followed by symptoms such as screaming, cyanosis (bluish discoloration of the skin), and urinary incontinence.
