What causes intermittent pain in the back of the head?
Disease description:
I always feel intermittent pain at the back of my head, but I haven't hit my head. What could be causing this pulsating pain in the back of my head?
Intermittent pain in the back of the head may be caused by conditions such as colds or headaches. Pain in the occipital region can also result from local injuries, inflammation leading to soft tissue inflammation, temporal arteritis, or hypertension. Paroxysmal headaches are often due to cerebral vasospasm or insufficient cerebral blood supply. Diagnostic tests such as electroencephalogram (EEG), head CT scan, or brain MRI may be required. Medication can be taken if necessary.
