Recently, the vomiting has become quite severe. A friend mentioned it might be caused by metabolic acidosis. I would like to know: what is the reason for vomiting in metabolic acidosis?

Dr. Wang Mingxuan
The main cause of vomiting in metabolic acidosis is occasionally losing large amounts of gastric fluid. Since hydrochloric acid is a primary component of gastric juice, severe vomiting leads to substantial loss of hydrochloric acid, thereby causing metabolic acidosis. Metabolic acidosis stimulates central and peripheral chemoreceptors, exciting the respiratory center, which may result in symptoms such as dyspnea and even shock.
