Disease description:

I don't know what's going on, but my right leg has been severely swollen for the past two days. I didn't suffer any external injury, but it's very painful. I'd like to ask, what are the possible causes of unilateral lower limb edema?

Causes of unilateral lower limb edema include nephritis and skin cellulitis. In cases of glomerulonephritis, protein is lost in the urine, leading to decreased plasma albumin levels, which reduces the colloid osmotic pressure in the blood and results in fluid leakage from blood vessels into the interstitial spaces. Cellulitis is usually caused by Staphylococcus aureus or streptococci; affected patients typically present with lower limb swelling, erythema, increased skin temperature, and painful, orange-peel-like skin changes in the affected area.
