How is a functional pituitary tumor treated?
Disease description:
When I went to the hospital for examination, they told me I have a functional pituitary tumor. What treatments are available for this condition? How is a functional pituitary tumor treated?
Functional pituitary tumors can be treated with medications, surgery, and other methods. For prolactin-secreting pituitary tumors, dopamine receptor agonists—such as bromocriptine—can be used to reduce prolactin secretion; in some cases, this may lead to clinical tumor shrinkage or even disappearance. However, if there is no significant improvement after more than six months of medication, surgical intervention should be considered.
