My child was born one month earlier than the due date. I've heard that premature babies tend to have poor health. What are the potential risks associated with a baby being born one month early?

The risks of a baby being born one month premature include breathing difficulties, hypoglycemia, and others. When preterm birth occurs before the fetus is fully developed, the lungs may not expand adequately after birth, leading to respiratory distress and even fetal death. The liver of a premature infant is not yet fully mature; with an underdeveloped enzyme system and insufficient vitamin K levels, there is an increased risk of severe bleeding. Premature infants may also develop severe jaundice. They often have weak sucking reflexes, making feeding difficult, which can lead to complications such as hypoglycemia.
