What is an advanced maternal age pregnancy?
Disease description:
My younger aunt is 35 this year and is pregnant with her second child. When she went to the hospital, they told her she's an advanced maternal age case. What exactly is an advanced maternal age case?
Advanced maternal age generally refers to pregnant women who are 35 years old or older at the time of delivery. Under normal circumstances, the optimal childbearing age for women is between 23 and 29 years, preferably not exceeding 30. As age increases, fertility gradually declines. The risk of fetal chromosomal abnormalities rises among older mothers, as does the incidence of pregnancy-related complications and comorbidities. Women who are 35 years or older at delivery, or who are already 34 years old during pregnancy, are considered advanced maternal age.
