Disease description:

It seems I'm about to have a cesarean section. The doctor is concerned that the baby might develop complications. Would a C-section at 38 weeks and 3 days be too early?

A cesarean section at 38 weeks and 3 days is not considered too early. However, unless there are specific medical reasons, it's generally better to wait until closer to the due date, ideally at 39 weeks, before performing a cesarean. Vaginal delivery does not require surgery. Fetal hypoxia may be caused by conditions such as placenta previa or pregnancy-induced hypertension. A cesarean at 38 weeks plus three prior cesareans is not particularly premature. However, if the intrauterine environment is poor, complications are more likely to occur.
