Hydrocephalus caused by intracerebral hemorrhage can be treated with external ventricular drainage, lumbar puncture, lumbar subarachnoid catheterization, or ventriculoperitoneal shunting. In patients with intracerebral hemorrhage, blood may enter the ventricles or subarachnoid space, leading to hemorrhagic hydrocephalus. Hemorrhagic cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) can impair CSF absorption or obstruct CSF circulation, resulting in hydrocephalus. In such cases, lumbar puncture or lumbar subarachnoid catheterization can be performed to drain the hemorrhagic CSF out of the body. If intracranial pressure is too high to allow lumbar puncture, external ventricular drainage can be performed to remove the hemorrhagic CSF.
