What to watch for after a head injury
Disease description:
An elderly family member fell this morning and hit their head. I would like to know what precautions should be taken after a head injury?
Actually, if the head impact is very mild, there is generally no need for concern. However, in cases of severe scalp laceration, emergency treatment is required, including applying pressure to stop bleeding. Additionally, wound debridement should be performed as soon as possible to remove foreign materials and control hemorrhage. During surgery, it is important to check for skull fractures and ensure proper suturing of any wounds involving dural membrane injury. For patients with scalp tissue loss, repair can be achieved through subcutaneous tissue release or skin flap transfer. For wounds sustained more than two to three days prior, local debridement should still be carried out.
