Pediatric viral encephalitis is a very common disease, primarily caused by various viruses. It has an acute onset and is typically characterized by high fever, headache, nausea, vomiting, somnolence, coma, and recurrent seizures. In severe cases, patients may develop hemiplegia, increased intracranial pressure, or brain herniation. Diagnosis can be confirmed through blood tests and lumbar puncture to examine the cerebrospinal fluid. The main treatment is antiviral therapy, such as intravenous administration of acyclovir, ganciclovir, or ribavirin, used alternately. Mannitol can be used to control cerebral edema, and oral analgesics may help relieve headaches.
