Why is stitching required when performing an inner corner eye surgery?
Disease description:
Since I have single eyelids, I want to get double eyelid surgery. My friend suggested I also do epicanthoplasty (inner corner opening). I heard that stitches are required—why is stitching necessary for inner corner eye surgery?
Suturing is required when performing medial epicanthoplasty to help prevent scar formation. During the first few months before scar stabilization, persistent tension may lead to widening of the eye fissure; thus, epicanthoplasty can alleviate such symptoms. For eyes with epicanthal folds, medial epicanthoplasty is an effective treatment that makes the eyes appear larger and more attractive. Generally, either medial or lateral canthoplasty can be used for improvement.
