What causes irregular menstruation in adolescents?
Disease description:
I am currently in puberty, and my menstruation has been irregular—coming at different times each month. This situation makes me constantly worry that something is wrong with my body. So, what causes menstrual irregularities in adolescents?
Menstrual irregularities are relatively common among adolescents, as their ovarian function is immature and anovulation frequently occurs, leading to a lack of cyclic estrogen and progesterone secretion and thus absence of cyclical menstrual pain. The endometrium often thickens to a certain extent and subsequently results in breakthrough bleeding, manifesting as irregular menstruation and sometimes menorrhagia. For adolescents with menstrual abnormalities, if there is no excessive menstrual bleeding, specific treatment is usually not required. Typically, as they grow older, ovarian function gradually matures and menstruation becomes regular.
