Does bleeding during sex necessarily mean cervical cancer?

Bleeding during sexual intercourse is not necessarily cervical cancer. Female post-coital bleeding refers to localized bleeding from the vagina or external genitalia occurring during or after sexual intercourse. Generally, the amount of bleeding is small, and severe hemorrhage occurs only in rare cases. Most bleeding is caused by organic lesions of the reproductive system, while a minority results from rough or improper sexual activity. Common causes include cervical developmental abnormalities, cervical polyps, and fibroids. It should be noted that patients with fibroids should not take any medications containing estrogen, such as oral contraceptives. Other causes include vaginitis or cervicitis, trichomoniasis, and vaginal yeast infections.
