Disease description:

Menopause is a special period for women. During this time, women may experience endocrine disorders, which can also lead to other health issues. Women should pay attention to their own symptoms during this phase, and if abnormalities persist, they should seek medical treatment at a hospital. Various irregularities can occur during menopause—what causes heavy menstrual bleeding during this period?

Excessive menstrual bleeding in perimenopausal women is primarily caused by fluctuations in estrogen levels and significant variations in the amplitude of these fluctuations. Perimenopausal women may experience noticeable symptoms, especially during menstruation. They may suffer from menorrhagia with prolonged or continuous bleeding, or alternatively, experience several months of amenorrhea. However, once menstruation resumes, heavy bleeding often occurs. This results from unstable estrogen levels and declining ovarian function, leading to irregular menstrual cycles. In such cases, if the menstrual flow is manageable and does not lead to anemia, careful observation may be appropriate for now. Generally, the perimenopausal phase resolves within about a year, after which true menopause ensues. However, if younger women develop dysfunctional uterine bleeding leading to endometrial hyperplasia and anemia, prompt intervention and correction are necessary.
