Disease description:

Shoulder periarthritis is a highly prevalent condition, especially among people like me who work at a desk for prolonged periods, making them more susceptible to developing this condition. However, the nature of this pain has always been difficult to describe—so, is the pain of shoulder periarthritis a type of nerve pain?

The pain caused by shoulder periarthritis is not neuropathic pain. The pain from shoulder periarthritis is typically a tearing or pulling sensation in the shoulder joint, sometimes accompanied by stiffness and aching. In contrast, neuropathic pain is often characterized as electric shock-like, with possible localized sensations of stabbing, cutting, or burning. Pain from shoulder periarthritis usually worsens with shoulder joint movement, exposure to cold, and lifting the arm upward. Additionally, the pain tends to become more pronounced at night, which is a key feature of shoulder periarthritis.
