How is a pituitary tumor treated?
Disease description:
Pituitary adenoma is a benign tumor located in the human pituitary gland. In terms of incidence among intracranial tumors, pituitary adenomas rank third, following meningiomas and gliomas. How then are pituitary adenomas treated?
For the treatment of pituitary adenomas, surgical resection is the first choice for most patients, although some patients may require adjunctive drug therapy. Radiotherapy can be used as an adjuvant treatment in cases of postoperative recurrence or when there is a large residual tumor after surgery. Pituitary tumors are generally curable with surgical treatment; however, due to the possibility of recurrence, regular follow-up visits are necessary after surgery.
