Common causes of obstructive hydrocephalus include periventricular or intraventricular tumors, particularly those surrounding the third ventricle, spontaneous or traumatic subarachnoid hemorrhage, subarachnoid adhesions caused by encephalitis or ventriculitis, and obstruction of cerebrospinal fluid circulation. Hydrocephalus refers to excessive accumulation of cerebrospinal fluid within the brain due to overproduction, impaired circulation, or impaired absorption of cerebrospinal fluid resulting from various causes.
