Why do people get intercostal neuralgia?
Disease description:
A friend mentioned he has intercostal neuralgia. He's usually fine, so why would he develop intercostal neuralgia?
Intercostal neuralgia is a painful condition caused by nerve damage or sudden pain. It is primarily due to prolonged physical activity involving strain and overuse of the chest muscles, chronic stress, and compression of nerves by surrounding tissues. It may also result from infections in tendons or soft tissues at either end of the ribs, or specific diseases such as rheumatism, chronic strain, and cancer.
