Disease description:

Hello doctor, recently a family member developed small bumps on the skin. After going to the hospital, they were diagnosed with an immune system-related skin disease. Since we've never heard of such a condition before, we'd like to learn more. Could you please explain what kinds of skin diseases are related to the immune system?

Immunological skin diseases are caused by immune system dysregulation leading to the development of various skin disorders. These include, but are not limited to, psoriasis, atopic dermatitis, eczema, vitiligo, and rheumatoid arthritis. Psoriasis is a drug-resistant skin condition that occurs on the skin or as chronic eczematous lesions, potentially leading to severe and long-lasting illness. Atopic dermatitis results from an overactive immune response causing skin inflammation, with symptoms including redness, itching, and sometimes oozing lesions accompanied by discomfort and distress. Eczema is a chronic skin disease most commonly presenting as dull-colored, erythematous patches with rough, wrinkled texture. Vitiligo is a chronic autoimmune skin disorder characterized by skin lesions that typically appear as pale yellow or white spots, often accompanied by itching, and may be associated with skin ulcers or scaling. Finally, rheumatoid arthritis is a chronic autoimmune disease whose symptoms include joint pain, swelling, redness, and in severe cases, restricted mobility in affected joints.
