Foods to Avoid for Cold and Flu with Wind-Cold or Wind-Heat Patterns
Disease description:
I've had a slight cold these past couple of days, but I'm not sure whether it's a heat-type or cold-type common cold. I'd like to know which foods should be avoided in cold-type and heat-type common colds.
Wind-cold and wind-heat colds are two different conditions, each with generally different dietary restrictions. Patients with wind-cold colds should avoid eating foods such as mung bean sprouts, pears, and watermelon, as these are considered cooling in nature and may exacerbate symptoms of wind-cold. For wind-heat colds, patients should avoid lamb, astragalus, and donkey-hide gelatin (Ajiao), and also refrain from spicy and greasy foods such as chili peppers and spicy hot pot, to prevent aggravating internal heat and worsening wind-heat symptoms.
