My husband said he has a cold. We have Lianhua Qingwen at home. I'd like to ask, can Lianhua Qingwen treat colds caused by wind-cold?

Lianhua Qingwen is generally not effective for treating wind-cold type colds. Lianhua Qingwen contains ingredients such as Isatis root, Dryopteris crassirhizoma, Houttuynia cordata, and Pogostemon cablin, which have effects of clearing away epidemic toxins, relieving fever, promoting lung function, and eliminating heat. It is primarily used to treat discomfort symptoms caused by influenza due to the pattern of heat-toxin attacking the lungs. Wind-cold type colds, however, are mainly caused by exposure to cold and chill; therefore, taking this medication usually does not achieve a therapeutic effect.
