Hello, doctor. I would like to ask whether cholera is classified as a Class A or Class B infectious disease?

Doctor's answer (1)
Dr. Jiang Weimin
Cholera is an infectious enteritis, an acute intestinal infection caused by Salmonella typhi. It is an acute mycoplasma-related illness and a bacterial infectious disease classified as an acute communicable disease. Its clinical features include nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, and abdominal pain; some patients may develop fever, pallor, and lymphopenia, which could be signs of mycoplasma infection. Salmonella typhi is divided into two categories—large and small—classified respectively under type A and type B. Cholera is caused by the type B strain of Salmonella typhi. Cholera is contagious and can be transmitted through food, water, air, and also via contact with the excreta of infected individuals. Sometimes, cholera outbreaks show distinct regional patterns and can easily lead to epidemics; therefore, protective measures should be taken seriously, and people should avoid traveling to affected areas.
