Hello, doctor. I'd like to ask if adults can get infected with influenza A or B?

Doctor's answer (1)
Dr. Jiang Weimin
Influenza A and Influenza B are two common types of influenza viruses caused by type A and type B influenza viruses, respectively, and belong to upper respiratory tract infections. Generally, only adults are susceptible to Influenza A and B, while children are less commonly affected. Both Influenza A and B can spread through direct contact; infection can easily occur if there is a sick family member, exposure to infected individuals at work, or contact with patients in public places. Occasionally, Influenza A and B may be transmitted by mosquitoes and flies; during outdoor activities in summer, contact with infected insects could lead to infection. Additionally, Influenza A and B might be transmitted through contaminated food. Therefore, to prevent Influenza A and B, it is important to maintain basic personal hygiene, such as frequent handwashing, eating more fresh fruits and vegetables, avoiding food intended for stray animals, thoroughly washing edible fruits and vegetables, wearing loose clothing, engaging in outdoor activities regularly, keeping the environment clean, improving air quality, avoiding communities or public places when possible, and promptly isolating oneself to avoid contact with infected individuals, thereby reducing the risk of infection.
