Trichomonas infection of the glans penis generally does not resolve spontaneously. It is usually caused by trichomonal balanoposthitis, a sexually transmitted infection typically transmitted from female partners with trichomoniasis vaginitis. Symptoms of trichomonal balanoposthitis include itching, pain, swelling, and ulceration of the foreskin and glans penis. Without timely treatment, symptoms may worsen and could lead to urethral infections and other complications. Treatment typically involves oral medications and topical agents under medical supervision, such as antibiotics like metronidazole or tinidazole, and topical antibiotic ointments. Sexual activity should be avoided during treatment, and good personal hygiene should be maintained while avoiding excessive fatigue.
