What causes a child's knee joint to make popping or cracking sounds?

There are several possible reasons for a child's knee joint making popping or cracking sounds. In children, bones and joints have not yet fully developed; the cartilage between joints is relatively thick, and the joint capsule is comparatively loose, which may lead to audible sounds during movement. This is usually a normal physiological phenomenon. If a child is highly active, it may cause joint wear and strain, resulting in such noises. Additionally, certain medical conditions—such as discoid meniscus, synovitis, or osteoarthritis—can also cause knee joint sounds.
