Should children under one year old not eat salt?
Disease description:
The child is almost one year old. I've heard that children shouldn't eat salt before age one. Is it true that kids shouldn't consume salt before turning one?
Children under one year of age generally should not consume salt. Before the age of one, a child's kidneys are not fully developed and cannot effectively absorb excess sodium from the blood or excrete it from the body. If parents give too much salt to infants, it may increase the burden on their kidneys and potentially cause kidney damage. A child's sense of taste is particularly sensitive during this period; consuming salt at this stage may lead to a preference for stronger flavors, increasing the child's future salt intake. Long-term excessive salt consumption may contribute to the development of high blood pressure.
